Mrs. George V. Denton passed away her home, 1209 Throop, Topeka, on July 28, 1939, after an extended illness. She formerly was Martha Cochran, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Cochran, and was born Dec. 27, 1889, in Jackson County, near Bucks Grove. She grew to womanhood at Havensville and was married July 1, 1908 to Mr. Denton. They lived in Topeka the last twenty-one years. Mrs. Denton joined the Havensville Methodist church in girlhood and always lived a Christian life. She was a devoted daughter and sister, wife and mother. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her. Surviving her, are her husband, their son Alfred E. Denton of Topeka, two sisters, Mrs. Edith Bartlett of Havensville and Mrs. Amanda Hinshaw of Topeka; three brothers, John T. Cochran of Independence, Mo., and Robert and Ed Cochran of Topeka; one grandchild, DeAnne Kay Denton, of Topeka. The funeral service, largely attended, was held at the Penwell Funeral Home in Topeka, July 31; Rev. William Mayfield was the minister. The songs were by Mr. Carl Rankin, with Mrs. Harold Rankin accompanying. The casket bearers were Messrs. Melvin Thompson, Jesse Brady, Clyde Tressner, Roy Cameron, Clifford McFarland and Chet Stamm. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery, Topeka.
