Mount Horeb - Vernus L. Cassidy, age 86, of Mount Horeb, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.

He was born July 5, 1925, in Fayette Township, Lafayette County, the son of Howard and Vera (Ferrell) Cassidy, attended Waldwick Grade School and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1943.

Vernus married Betty Buckingham on March 11, 1948, at Blanchardville. He later married Charolette Hawkins Kehm on Nov. 29, 1987, at Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe. Vernus was a member of Waldwick Methodist Church, farmed, was a salesman for Wick and Wisconsin Pole Structure, and enjoyed golfing, dancing, and since 1987 spent winter months in Florida.

Surviving are his wife of Mount Horeb; children, brothers, stepchildren, stepdaughters-in-law, nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 29 step-grandchildren; 46 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and stepsons, Bruce Kehm and Robert Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, 1455 Mansion Drive and N. 18th Avenue in Monroe with Karl Gant officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Countyline Cemetery at Waldwick. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at the funeral home.
