Joseph Omer Barrett was born May 7, 1867 near Salem, Ind., and died December 23, 1934, at his home in Belleville, Kan., at the age of 67 years, 7 months, and 16 days.

While a small boy he moved with his parents to Illinois where his father died in the summer of 1877. In the same fall, he, with his widowed mother and family, moved to Kansas, making their home four miles north of Scandia.

He was married to Mary Frances Nichols December 27, 1899 and to this union three children were born.

The Barrett family has lived in Belleville for the past five years, moving here from Rydal. The deceased moved to the White Rock community in 1900. He afterwards lived in Neodosha, Kan., and at Courtland, moving from there to Rydal, where he purchased a store in 1913.

He was of a family of eleven children all preceding him in death except two sisters, Mrs. Mary Morris of Salina, Kan., and Mrs. Martha Stinson of Seattle, Wash.

In the year of 1908 he united with the United Brethren church of White Rock, Kan.

Those left to mourn his loss are his widow, Mary Barrett; a son, Claude L., of Hutchinson; two daughters, Mrs. Merle Wenda of Republic and Beulah of the home; one grandson, Paul Lester Wenda of Republic; two sisters; and other relatives and friends.
