She was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was previously employed with Mills Manufacturing.
Her first husband was Fred Martin Roberts, who died in 1965. She was also married to Howard Lee Shirlin, Sr., who died in 1982.
At the time of her death she was survived by her husband, James Ray McCurry, to whom she had been married for ten years; two daughters and sons-in-law; a son; three stepsons; five grandchildren; six step-grand children and several step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ortive Crowder of Candler; Olfa Crowder of Asheville, and Warren Crowder of Lakeland, Fl.
Vivian's funeral was held on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at Locust Grove Baptist Church.
She was laid to rest next to her first husband in the church cemetery.
