Elmer L. Anderson
Elmer L. Anderson was born in LaGrande Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, on March 29, 1902, the son of Andrew and Ella Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lake Ida Lutheran Church at Garfield, Minnesota. He attended school and grew to manhood on the home farm in LaGrande Township. On June 29, 1926 he was united in marriage to Emma Rogers, two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson preceded him in death on October 14, 1959.
Elmer owned and operated the Alexandria Glass Works until his semi-retirement in 1968. He was active in civic affairs and served many terms on the City Council of Alexandria and also held other offices in various organizations: Past Council Member of City Council of Alexandria, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, I.O.O.F., United Commercial Travelers, and Nelson Men's Club.
On December 17, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gladys Gunderson. Elmer passed away on Saturday, February 28, 1970 at the age of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, two daughters, Helen (Mrs. Gene Strom) of St. Simmons Island, Georgia; Florence (Mrs. Robert Rosengren) of Alexandria, Minnesota. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three sisters and two brothers: Edna (Mrs. Cliff Angen) of Alexandria; Myrtle (Mrs. Wm. Bergeren) of Camas, Washington; Hazel (Mrs. Arthur Peterson) of Alexandria; Harold and Walter of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents and one brother Clifford.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, march 4, 1970 at 10:30 a.m. from Calvary Lutheran Church, Alexandria, Minnesota, Rev. Giles Ekola officiating. Interment was at the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Minnesota. Pall Bearers were Melvin Mattson, Harry Bailey, DeWayne Anderson, Ray Sherlin, Lloyd Geisness, Fritz Herberg. Honorary bearers were Lee Hewett, Dave Jones, Ole Bormes, Ervlen Seiling, Richard Rosengren, Chester Johnson, Fred Quackenbush, Otto Johnson, Alvin Stocker and Marvin Hanson.
