Joseph Shramek, Long-Time Resident, Died July 28
Joseph Shramek, a long-time resident and business man of David City, died on Wednesday, July 28, in the David City hospital, after illness of three weeks. He had been in failing health for some time. He was 78 years of age.
Born to Joseph and Frances Burien Shramek on Feb. 6, 1870, near Des Moines, Iowa, he came to Nebraska as a child, and had lived in David City 70 years. He was a charter member of the David City Commercial club, a former president of the Butler County State Bank, and for 15 years was associated with the wholesale distributing company that bears his name. He was a member of the Catholic church.
Mr. Shramek was married to Anna Kasparek in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 27, 1897. To them were born three daughters and two sons, of whom one son, Thomas R. Shramek, has passed on. The surviving children are Irene Ficke of David City, Josephine Charvat of Long Beach, Calif., DeLellis Adams of Maxwell Field, Ala., and J. J. Shramek of Lincoln. Mrs. Shramek died Nov. 12, 1938.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church at 9 a.m. Friday, July 30, in charge of Rev. W. A. Murphy. Music was by St. Mary’s choir. The pallbearers were E. A. Coufal, M. A. Shaw, Harold Zinnnecker, Dr. W. F. Gilmore, Anton Horacek and Arnold Reid. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery.
All the children, a brother John Shramek and family from Crete, and many friends from elsewhere were among those in attendance at the funeral.
