Sarah Whiting Peabody Davock was a daughter of Henry Whiting and Pamelia (Rice) Whiting and a descendant of one of the old New England families, the ancestral line being traced back to the Rev. Samuel Whiting, who came to America in 1636 and was pastor of the first church at Lynn, Massachusetts. Pamelia Rice, mother of Mrs. Davock, was a daughter of Dr. Justin Rice, a pioneer physician of Michigan, who later engaged in the lumber business. Colonel Henry Whiting, her father, was a native of Bath, New York, and was graduated from the West Point Military Academy, after which he saw service as a lieutenant in the Mexican war. Resigning from the army, he was engaged in mercantile business at St. Clair when the Civil war broke out and he volunteered for service, being placed in command of a Vermont regiment. He was also regent of the University of Michigan. Hon. Justin R. Whiting, who was congressman from Michigan for eight years was a brother of Mrs. Davock.

Sarah Whiting was the wife of Mr. Peabody and Harlow P. Davock (m. 4 January 1883, St. Clair, Michigan).

She is buried near Anna Belle Whiting Mason.
