DELAVAN - Richard L. Alexander, 87, of Delavan passed away at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Bickford House in Peoria, where he had resided for the past three years.

He was born May 22, 1925, in Delavan to Lawrence and Agnes Brown Alexander. He married Veramae Yontz on March 11, 1950, in San Jose. She preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 2001.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Alexander.

Survivors include two sons, Kimble (Jan) Alexander and Matthew (Sandy) Alexander, both of Delavan; three grandchildren, Dr. Carrie (Jeremy) Alexander-Albritton, Christopher Alexander and Adrianne Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Avarie, Brynlee and Grayson; and one brother, Gerald (Millie) Alexander of Delavan.

Richard graduated from Delavan High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he flew the AT6 and P51 airplanes. Upon his return home, he continued flying as a crop duster and also farmed in the Delavan area for over 60 years.

His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Davis Mortuary in Delavan. Chaplain Bill Cordes and the Rev. Larry Moreau will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan, where military rites will be accorded by Delavan American Legion Post 382.
