Jack K. Adams Sr.

A longtime resident of Osage County, passed away early Saturday morning, Feb. 11, 2012, at the age of 82. The most important thing to him was his belief and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Shed no tears of sorrow, but tears of joy because Jack has finally looked into the eyes of his Savior and is home at last.

In 1929, Jack was born to Fred and Alta Adams in Stillwater. He was the second oldest of four sons. There was a closeness and love between brothers, especially with his brother Bert. He and his brothers attended school at 101 Ranch and later at Marland schools. They swam in the Salt Fork River, fished and enjoyed being boys. Jack and his brother Travis joined the army around 1945. They wanted to serve their country together. Jack was stationed in occupied Germany and served with honor. It was brought to the attention of his commander that he had an interest and was good at boxing. He served on the boxing team and competed against other platoons in the Army.

After returning from the service he met Harriet Poore, whom he later married in 1950. They moved to Osage County and raised four children. Jack operated a dairy for many years. He invested many hours in this labor intensive occupation working in subzero temperatures and hot blazing Oklahoma summers. Jack had a strong work ethic and lots of determination, working days and evenings milking cows, mending fences and repairing broken-down equipment.

In the 1970s Jack decided to sell his dairy and invest in a beef cattle operation. He loved riding his cow horse, Osage, and he looked good in a cowboy hat and boots. At age 35, after starting his family and creating his business, he accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at a little church held in Peter School. He attended church at Osage Heights Baptist Church for the next 40 years. During that time he was participating in mission trips to Venezuela, Africa, Australia and India. He was also a member of the Gideons International, an organization that hands out free Bibles all over the world. Jack Adams and Olin Bransetter, as devoted Christians while serving as Gideons, started a jail ministry at the Kay County Jail.

He was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Alta Adams; brothers, Travis Adams and Bert Adams; and grandson, William "Billy" Taylor III. He is survived by his children, Veleyas Adams, Judy Adams, Anita Jeffries and Jack K. Adams Jr.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brother, Clinton Adams. Services will be held at Osage Heights Baptist Church, 142 Tapp Road, with Mr. Harold Hutchins as the officiating clergy at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Viewing times to be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Trout Funeral Home on Grand Avenue. Burial follows at Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Park, 1901 East Hubbard Road, Ponca City. Donations to the Gideons International, www.gideons.org, can be made in honor of Jack K. Adams Sr. Casket bearers will be Jack K. Adams Jr., Daniel Jeffries, Alex Sfragidas, Freddie Adams, Dennis Reeves and Larry Lamb. Honorary casket bearers will be Hunter Adams, Keith Jeffries, Rey Alaniz and Zack Means.
