Belvedere, SC-Mr. David Arzo Dickson, Jr., 83, of Belvedere, passed away on Saturday, September 29th, 2012, due to a battle with Bone Cancer at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospice Unit, Uptown Division.
Mr. Dickson was born on January 18th, 1929, to David Arzo, Sr. and Cora Mangrum Dickson in Bogart, GA. He was the ninth of ten children.
A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954. He was a member of the LBC American Legion Post #153. He retired from the Clearwater Finishing Plant after forty-four years of service. Following his retirement, he started traveling. He loved camping with his family and friends. He traveled as far as Alaska and the West Coast with his sisters and brothers. He helped build many homes at Clarks Hill.
A special ‘"Thank You" to the staff of the Hospice Unit at the VAMC for the care given David and Peggy during this period.
He is survived by a son, Randy Dickson, (Cindy) two granddaughters, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter due in October, several step-children, brother, Bobby Dickson, (Laura Mae) as well as many great nieces and nephews. By his side the past twenty years and during his long battle with Cancer, was his sweetheart and companion, Peggy Sue Cross.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012, at 1 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, with Pastor Rick Bunkley officiating. Interment with Veterans Honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville.
Mr. Dickson loved his church and requested that memorials be made to Victory Baptist Church, 620 West Martintown Rd., North Augusta, SC 29841.
Friends will be greeted on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012, from 11 o'clock until the time of service at
Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
