Mr. Bowers died at his home, 2135 Edith St., after an extended illness.
He was born in Murphysboro Feb. 14, 1904. He operated a hardware store, Bowers and Sons Hardware, for 38 years.
He was married Aug. 13, 1924, to Alice Stout.
Mr. Bowers was a past president of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Murphysboro Shrine Club, and a member of the Knight Templar and Royal Arch Masons, both of Carbondale. He was a member of the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis, and a member of the Low 12 Club of Murphysboro. He was a member of the Sword of Bunker Hill unit in Carbondale. Mr. Bowers was a member of the board of trustees of Murphysboro Industry, Inc.
Mr. Bowers leaves his wife; daughters, Miss Margaret Alice Bowers and Miss [sic] Mary Powers, both of Murphysboro; sons, Michael, Timothy and Cooper, all of Murphysboro; sisters, Mrs. Frank Stewart of Murphysboro and Mrs. Verna Bittle of Akron, Ohio; his mother Mrs. Bessie McKeever of Carbondale; his grand mother, Mrs. Sadie McDaniel of Murphysboro, and nine grand children.
One daughter preceded him in death.
