Services will be at 7 p.m. today in Pettett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Gravesite services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Tower Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Sunday.
Juanita was born on June 21, 1915, in Murphysboro, to Frank (Pat) Bowers and Bessie (McDaniel) Bowers.
She married Frank R. Stewart on Jan. 21, 1934, in Vergennes, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1966.
Juanita had worked as a sales clerk for the former Ben Franklin and The Weather Van Shop, and had been the manager of the former Economy Fabric Shop for 10 years. She was a member of the Retail Clerks Union 1595.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro, where she had been very active until recently. She assisted with the Meals on Wheels Program and she helped initiate the Scripture Outreach to shut-ins.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Steven R. Stewart of Burke, Va.; one grandson, Steven A. Stewart of New York, N.Y.; and nieces, nephews; great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Clifton Bowers; one sister, Verna A. Bittle; and one stepsister, Hazel V. Bean.
