John was a graduate of Kansas State University and worked at Kansas radio stations before coming to Tulsa in 1935 when he became a math instructor at Clinton Junior High School. In 1942, he joined the Chamber of Commerce staff as publicity manager. John was coordinator of several national events in Tulsa: the First National Conference of Peaceful Uses of Space in the early 1960s, the Conference on Growth with Environmental Quality in the 1970s and the 1979 Congressional Medal of Honor Reunion. He served as manager of membership and finance, worked in the conventions and civic departments and as acting general manager during his career. He retired in 1983 as senior vice president. He continued until his death to maintain offices in the chamber as executive director of the Tulsa Service Corps of Retired Executives, a group he founded in 1985. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, a former member of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives and a past president of the Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce Executives. He received his Certified Chamber Executive award in 1970.
John is survived by a son, three daughters, one brother, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
