DODGE CITY - Robert E. "Bob" Barhydt, 82, died, Feb. 12, 2006, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.

He was born July 21, 1923, in Hutchinson, the son of Charles Hale and Alma Carrie Eva Becker Barhydt. He attended elementary school in Hutchinson and junior high and high school in Dodge City, graduating in 1941. He worked at Fidelity State Bank in Dodge City after high school and retired after 48 years, continuing to serve on the Board of Directors. He served on the Dodge City School Board from 1959 to 1975.

He belonged to First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, and was past president and member of the Dodge City Rotary Club and past commander of the Charles Ernest Scott Post No. 47, American Legion. He was a naval aviator during World War II.

On June 8, 1947, he married Helen Elizabeth Weinmann in Dodge City. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Bob Barhydt, Salina, and Fred Barhydt, Georgetown, Texas; a daughter, Julie Westmacott, Dodge City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, with the Rev. Lance Carrithers presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Burial will follow the service in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post No. 1714, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
