Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 30, 1996, in the First Methodist Church in Powell, Wyoming for Mrs. Barbara Smalley who passed away in the nursing home there on April 25. She had been ill about five months with a brain tumor.
Barbara Alice Bark will was born in Melvin on May 27, 1921, the youngest child of Mabel Barkhuff Barkwill and Walter M. Barkwill. She attended school and graduated from high school in Melvin in 1939.

She was married to Wayland E. Smalley at the Methodist Campgrounds at Lake Okoboji in June 1940. Their married life was spent farming at Pow­ell, Wyoming. Barbara was active in the Rebekah Lodge and in the Methodist Church. She was employed as a bookkeeper and salesperson at the J.C. Penney Store and at an appliance business.

She was beloved by many and remembered for her gift of friendship and her warm hospitality to many who visited.
She is survived by her husband, Wayland; two sons: Larry of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Myron of Riverton, Wyoming; two daughters-in-law, Carol and Kathy; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Margaret Miller of Austin, Minnesota, and Gertrude Year of Melvin.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Myrtle Miller and Frances Gosch, and brother Stanley Barkwill.
