Jefferson City News and Tribune (MO) – Page 16 – March 30, 1947:

Charles J. Eveler, 62 years old, veteran chef and cook and member of one of Cole County's old families, died unexpectedly at his home, 714 Monroe street, Saturday morning.

Eveler had not complained and appeared to be in good health when his wife left for church earlier in the morning. About an hour later Mrs. Lena Duncan, who lives on the second floor of the dwelling, heard a fall. She went to investigate and found him. A cerebral hemorrhage caused his death.

He was born in Wardsville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Eveler, and grew to manhood there. Coming to the city he was employed by the late Ed W. Creedon and soon became chief Cook of the Madison street restaurant. Later he worked for W.W. Smith.

He suffered from diabetes for many years and underwent two operations which resulted in amputation of his legs.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine Heinrichs Eveler to whom he was married Sept. 27, 1910, and one son, Joseph Eveler, of this city. There are four sisters, Mrs. Ann Bruemmer, Wardsville, Mrs. Sophia Hager, Mrs. Ben Feind and Mrs. Ben Markway all of this city.

He was a member of St. Peters Church and of the Benevolent Society of that parish.
