Verona M. Sackmaster Swinney, 78, of Nampa, died Thursday, April 18, 1991, at her home. Mrs. Swinney was born July 27, 1912, at St. Austell, Cornwall, England, to David and Mae Olford Werry. As an infant she moved with her family to the United States and was reared and educated in Seattle, Wash. She married Robert Sackmaster Sept. 22, 1931, in an airplane 10,000 feet above Seattle, Wash. They made their home in Seattle where she owned and operated a soda shop and her husband was a railroad engineer and pilot. In 1950 they moved to Portland, Ore. After Mr. Sackmaster's retirement in 1977 they moved to Nampa. Robert died Oct. 23, 1983. She later married Walter Swinney and made their home in Nampa. Verona was active in the Nampa First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband of Nampa; two sons, Jerry R. Sackmaster of the Dalles, Ore., and Robert D. Sackmaster of Hillsboro, Ore.; a sister, Hazel Tidy of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Jocine Wiebold, a brother, David and two infants.
