Born in Greene County, TN Joseph Finney Jr. and Mary Polly (Long) Finney. He married Melinda Hunt on May 10, 1835 in Parke County, Indiana.

His son David Wesley Finney served in Kansas legislature and senate, served as lieutenant governor of Kansas, 1881-3, and for him Finney county, Kansas was named in '83.

Another son, Robert Johnson Finney, who spent his life in Parke Co., IN, where he served as sheriff, was grandfather of C.W. Finney, 3330 N.W. 17th St., Oklahoma City, Okla. (Issue: 8 in all).
