Revolutionary Soldiers of the American Revolution buried in Ohio: Joseph Evans of Muskingum Co., Ohio. Private. Served under Capt. John Cotton and Capt. Thomas Saskil in the Chester Co., Pennsylvania Battalion. Born April 24, 1757 in Berks Co., Pennsylvania. Parents: David Evans and Mary VanDeVenter. Joseph Evans Married Ruth Sayer 1791. Children: John, Phoebe, Joseph Jr., Caleb, Mary, William, Reuben, James, Elizabeth and Anna. Died July 18, 1829, Muskingum Co., Ohio. Buried Old Baptist Church, Salt Creek Cemetery, a short distance form Zanesville, Ohio. Grave is in right hand corner as you approach the cemetery close to the graves of James Evans and wife, Sarah Comstock and close to the graves of David Comstock and Susanna Steenrod.

He came from Washington Co., Pennsylvania. Joseph Evans was a widower with one son (John) when he married his wife who was a widow with a son. She was Ruth Sayre from Salem, New Jersey. They were married in Washington County, Pennsylvania the 2nd time.
