J. R. 'Junior' Bass

J. R. (Junior) Bass passed away June 7, 2005, following a six month battle with lung cancer.

J. R. was born June 17, 1918, in Sarcoxie, Mo., and had lived most of his life in the Sarcoxie and Carthage area.

J. R. was a farmer and retired from W. R. Grace in 1982 after 40 years of service.

He married Margurette Russow on July 23, 1982, she survives.

Additional survivors include his three children, Hellen Denny and spouse, Lou, Carthage, Velma Simmer and spouse, Bill, Perry, Iowa, and Carroll Bass, Carthage; three stepchildren, Velma Quin and spouse, Bob, Pierce City, Mo., David Russow and spouse, Connie, Joplin, and Helen Johnson and spouse, Danny, of Joplin; two grandsons, four great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and one great-great grandchild; 10 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren. J.R. is also survived by his brother, Richard Bass and spouse, Edna, of Sarcoxie.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, one step-son and a grandson.

The family will receive friends June 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Graveside services will be June 9 at 10 a.m. at Dudman Cemetery, Sarcoxie.

Pastors Kenneth Filsinger of Redwood Holiness and Danny Mullins of Community Hospice will officiate. Pallbearers will be Richard Still, Don Benefiel, Windell Woolsey, Carvin Woolsey, and his grandsons, Scott Simmer and Greg Simmer. Dale Brand will serve as Honorary Pallbearer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
