On December 11, 2019 Katherine (Katie) Wagner joined Heaven's choir of angels with her beautiful, harmonious voice. Katherine was the 15th of 17 children born to Albert and Katherine (Sebero) DeLaet on the 20th of June, 1929 in the Town of Wagner. Despite being raised in such a large family she never seemed to have any regrets except that her mother died when she was only 5 years old. This left the loving task of helping to raise them to her older siblings & her Belgium born father. Until her mind started playing tricks on her, she could recite all of her sister's names in order of age; Anna, Laona, Gladys, May, Alice, Pauline, Margie, Elsie and Hubertine. All preceded her in death as well as 7 brothers; Dominic, Alexander, Albert, August, Earl, Honare (Jack) and Eugene. On October 27, 1945 she married Marvin Wagner at St. Edward's Catholic Church in the Town of Wagner. They had one daughter\who resides in Green Bay with her husband, and a grandson. She also had 2 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and siblings she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; and two grandsons, Dane Joseph and Douglas Marvin Cole. Also, brothers-in-law and wives Earl (Lylene), Richard, Wally (Arlene); and sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Sary) Goodfellow and (John Goodfellow) and Joe Krygoski.
Katherine remained living in the Town of Wagner until her husband of 69 years died in 2014. She then moved to assisted living facilities in Green Bay where she could be closer to her daughter and in a safer environment with her dementia and glaucoma.
In her younger years she was willing to try something new and found enjoyment in bowling, golf, cross-country skiing and even karate. Every evening she did the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. She also became quite accomplished in oil painting and had a nice collection of her works through the years. She was an active member of her little parish of St. Edward's where she belonged to the choir, ladies' Altar Society and was a religious education teacher. Her love of singing and an ear for harmony led her to join the River City Chorus group. One of her most memorable events in her life was a trip to Belgium where she visited her cousin, Roger DeLaet who lived in the same town of Burght that her father grew up in. There she met other relatives who still live in Belgium. An accomplishment she was proud of was leading a crusade with friend, Helen Wright to save the old McAllister School from demolition. It stands today as the charming historic Wagner Town Hall.

We thank the memory care unit of the Wyndemere and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and compassion at her end of life.
To celebrate her 90 years here on earth, friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. when a service will be led by Fr. Brian Gerber.
