Katherine remained living in the Town of Wagner until her husband of 69 years died in 2014. She then moved to assisted living facilities in Green Bay where she could be closer to her daughter and in a safer environment with her dementia and glaucoma.
In her younger years she was willing to try something new and found enjoyment in bowling, golf, cross-country skiing and even karate. Every evening she did the crossword puzzle in the newspaper. She also became quite accomplished in oil painting and had a nice collection of her works through the years. She was an active member of her little parish of St. Edward's where she belonged to the choir, ladies' Altar Society and was a religious education teacher. Her love of singing and an ear for harmony led her to join the River City Chorus group. One of her most memorable events in her life was a trip to Belgium where she visited her cousin, Roger DeLaet who lived in the same town of Burght that her father grew up in. There she met other relatives who still live in Belgium. An accomplishment she was proud of was leading a crusade with friend, Helen Wright to save the old McAllister School from demolition. It stands today as the charming historic Wagner Town Hall.
We thank the memory care unit of the Wyndemere and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and compassion at her end of life.
To celebrate her 90 years here on earth, friends may call at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. when a service will be led by Fr. Brian Gerber.
