Born in Maxbass, ND, son of the late Elmer and Mabel C. (Jackson) Halstead, he had lived in Westport since 1948. A career United States Navy serviceman, he was a World War II veteran. He served as Chief Pettey Officer Master of Arms at Justice School at the Newport Naval Base in Newport, RI prior to retiring from the service. He also worked as a machine operator at the former Congdon & Carpenter of Fall River. Mr. Halstead enjoyed playing cribbage, playing the guitar and talking with people.
He was brother of the late Myrtle Kirby and Luvern Bipple and step-brother of the late Lester Halstead and Donald Halstead.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
