Herman Mosset formerly of Linton ND, passed away at the Wishek Living Center on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, October 7, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.

Herman was born on Friday, April 10, 1925 to Wendlyn and Mary (Dietz) Mosset growing up southwest of Linton until 1935 when they moved into town. Herman recanted stories to his children and grandchildren about growing up and some of them being how they used to follow the train tracks and collect coal pieces that fell off the trains to heat the house or when times were tough, and they burned cow pies to heat the home.

In the fall of 1944, he worked at many docks in Richmond California returning to Linton in the spring of 1945. In the fall of 1945 and 1946 he attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND studying electric wiring, gas and arc welding, lath work, blue print reading and a touch of refrigeration. With a degree as electrical/lineman he did not want to move to MN for a job and opted to teach rural country school for 2 years.

He met the love of his life and married Lorraine Bichler on November 11, 1947. To this union 7 children were born: Elaine, Thomas, Mary, Janet, Gary, Jerome and as Dad said "a referee was needed" and thus Joan the youngest was born.

In 1950, Herman and Lorraine moved and dairy farmed 30 years on rented property 7 ½ miles southwest of Linton. Lorraine and kids tended to the milking while Herman drove a semi hauling cattle and grains to Duluth and St. Paul, MN. In 1955 after purchasing a new combine, he headed south and did custom combining with his brother and Father. During this time, Herman had a hired hand, Roy Hoffman, helping with the farm work and filling in where needed. Herman drove school bus for Linton for many years.

In 1980, Herman and Lorraine purchased Sebald Nagel's farm and upon retiring they moved into Linton.

Herman was a lifetime Knights of Columbus member. During his lifetime he served as Weed Board Director & Chairman, Manager of KC Hall, Manager, Secretary, Treasurer and Director of Our Club. He played piano music by ear and some of his favorite songs the kids danced to were In the Mood, Cab Driver and Red Wing. His hobbies included dart throwing, playing piano, pinochle and throwing dice. Dad and Mom entertained numerous friends and family to an evening of cards or dice (he stashed his dice/cup, and score card in the seat of his walker ready to shake at a moment's notice).

Husband, Dad & Grandpa is survived by his Wife, Lorraine, Children: Elaine Jochim, Tom, Mary (Dennis) Bartsch, Jan (Mike) Zerr, Gary, Jerome (Rita Jacob), Joan (Steve) Hodgson, 25 Grandchildren, 45 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great-Great Grandchildren; sisters, Kathryn (Alex Bichler), and Lenora (Joe Glasser).

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Son-in-law, Florian Jochim, Grandson, Greg Jochim, Granddaughters, Tammy Baumgartner and Baby Girl Bartsch, Great-Granddaughter, Trinity Mosset, Sisters, Leona (John Peterson), Delia (Robert Kallock), brother Wilfred (Butterball), Nephews, Donald Peterson, Bob Bichler, Charles Kallock, and Niece, Anita Mosset.

We wish to thank our Sister, Elaine and Niece, Lisa for tending to Dad's needs once they moved to Wishek, and Brother, Tom for the many Sundays' card or dice games played with Dad and Mom, Fr. Katanga for his visits and prayers and the Wishek Care Center for their care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Herman's name are requested to Wishek Living Center or St. Patrick's Church, Wishek, ND or St. Anthony Parish Church, Linton, ND.
