David P. Groves Dead
David P. Groves died Wednesday evening at 12:15 at his residence, 1615 Franklin avenue. Mr. Groves had been in poor health for more than two years. He was, however, able to be about until a short time ago when his decline became more rapid and death inevitable.
Mr. Groves was born in this county in May 1850. He was the son of David and Elizabeth Groves; the former a native of Kentucky. He was educated in the schools of Lafayette county, and, Spaulding's Business College of Kansas City. For a few months he was employed as a bookkeeper and clerk in the store of Mr. Ardinger in Lexington, but, not find this congenial, he engaged in farming. He was a lover of fine stock and gave speial attention to the raising and feeding of Herefords and shorthorns.
In 1877 Mr. Groves was married to Miss Ida Catron, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Catron. To this union four sons and one daughter were born and are as follows: Gordon of Amarillo, Texas, W.L. and Emmet A., of this city, Roscoe of Kansas City, and Mrs. J. Reid Ryland of Birmingham, Alabama.
Mr. Groves was an intelligent and agreeable man. He was successful in all of his business activities, respected by all of his acquaintances, and loved as a husband and father. He was a member of the Methodist church and lived conscientiously in accordance with his profession.
The funeral was held Thursday from the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. C.M. Davenport conducted the services.
