Utah Governor. Moving with his family to Utah, he graduated from the University of Utah in 1950, graduated from Stanford Law School in 1952, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Salt Lake City, Utah. He became the Deputy Salt Lake County Attorney in the mid-1950s, joined the legal department of the Union Pacific Railroad Company in 1958 and served as assistant general counsel for the Anaconda Copper Company, (1969 to 2971). In 1976, he was elected as a Democratic the 12th Governor of Utah, serving until 1985. During his two terms, he dealt with a number of important issues. Such as federal government agencies, national energy companies, plus advocated an alliance between government and the corporate community. He also encouraged the growth and the development in Utah's mineral resources and worked with major corporations in the Western Regional Council of the National Business Roundtable. After leaving office, he became a partner in the Salt Lake City law firm of Parsons, Behle & Latimer and served in several Democratic policy positions.
