Ion Hartunian joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department as an Ocean Lifeguard in the early 1980's and retired in January 2012.
Ion worked the stretch of beach from Santa Monica to Venice where he was highly regarded as an Ocean Lifeguard.
Along with his career at the beach, Ion was an accomplished photographer, model and actor.
Ion died peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 11, 2012. He was only 52 years old.
He is survived by his Mother, Virginia, two daughters; Jenny and Cori, and 2 Grandsons whom he adored.
A celebration of his life was held on Saturday September 22, 2012 at Will Rogers Beach, just South of Lifeguard Headquarters.
