John Hatton Hardy was a wheelwright during and following the Civil War. When he moved to Texas he became a house painter. The 1870 and 1880 census list this family in Shocco, Logan County Kentucky with wife Fannie. An 1882 state census lists them in Christian County, Kentucky. The family to Texas in 1883. The 1900, 1910 and 1920 census list John and Fannie in Brownwood, Brown County Texas near their son George William Hardy. In 1900 their grand-daughter Mary E. Buchanon (age 13) was living with them in Brownwood. According to Jack Morton Hardy, John and Fannie lived with the R.L. Hardy family in Dallas about 1921 and after Fannie's death in 1922 John lived with his son John Abner Hardy.
John and Fannie had two other children, Mary Frances Hardy Buchanon (born about 1865) and Minnie Hardy (born about 1869) but there is no further information on them.
