Opelousas — Clarence Samuel Bernard, 30, of Opelousas, a mathematics and science teacher at Washington High School [died] a 7:25 a.m. Thursday.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Eric Bernard of Opelousas. He was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Arnaudville and came here with his family in his early youth.

He was graduated from Opelousas High School in 1948, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-54, then entered the University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette.

He received his degree in 1958 and began teaching at Washington High School in September of that year.

Bernard's body is at Lafond & Son Funeral Home here. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas.

Bernard is survived by his parents, two brothers, Charles Louis Bernard and James Ralph Bernard, both of Opelousas, and two sisters, Mrs. Archille Cormier of Baton Rouge and Miss Gloria Bernard of Opelousas.
