Excerpt from Walter E. Briggs (Sophia's nephew) 1937 genealogy:

Sophia came to Grand Detour and Washington Grove, Illinois with the family in 1846. She was but eight years of age at the time of the removal from Maine. She grew to womanhood on the Briggs homestead near Paw Paw, Illinois and married Charles Bennett. They resided in Ogle and Lee County, Illinois for some years after which they moved to Kansas. The date of death of Sophia Bennett and her husband, Charles Bennett are unknown, also their place of burial. Very little is known about this branch of the Briggs family other than the names and last address of four children. No serious attempt has been made to locate the sons and daughters and the addresses given they were quite old in 1937.

More details of the genealogy state Charles Bennett was born about 1839 in Canada.

In September 2012, a Charles Bennett was found on Find A Grave. This Charles Bennett was born in 1839 in Canada. His biography states he was from Willow Creek, Illinois and enlisted into the Civil War. In 1860, Sophia was living in Willow Creek! His burial is in Kansas. It seems far too coincidental not to believe this Charles Bennett is Sophia's husband. Unfortunately, we find no Sophia Bennett buried in the same cemetery as this Charles Bennett. However, she will be linked to him as wife until it is proven otherwise.

Sophia and Charles had four children:

1. Sarah Bennett, b: Abt. 1869 in Illinois
2. Emma E. Bennett, b: Abt. 1873 in Illinois
3. Susan Bennett, b: Abt. 1878 in Kansas
4. Charles Bennett Jr., b: Abt. 1880 in Kansas
The location of Sophia's grave is unknown.
