"Adam Vancil, a veteran of the Blackhawk war of 1832, died at his home in Occidental November 18. He was born in Illinois and was a close personal friend of Abraham Lincoln. He enlisted in the company of which Lincoln was lieutenant served with him till the close of that Indian war. The old man took great delight in relating his experience while fighting Indians under Lincoln."
