DEATHS
Capt. Samuel J. Andrew
Capt. Samuel J. Andrew, an old and highly respected citizen of this city, died Sunday night at 9:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert G. Young, 1517 South Street. Capt. Andrew had been in failing health for the past two years, and his death was due to old age and general debility.
Capt. Andrew was born in Salisbury, N.C., September 20, 1840. He was married in Wilmington, N.C., June 13, 1866, to Miss Elizabeth McMillan. Mrs. Andrew died October 28, 1914. They came to Missouri in 1868, first locating in Jackson county. Later they came to Lexington where they spent the rest of their lives. Capt. Andrew was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in the Confederate Army until 1863, when he lost his right leg in the Battle of Brandy Station, Va. He was elected Probate Judge of Lafayette County in 1874, was deputy county clerk under the late W.B. Steele, and served two terms. After leaving the county clerk's office he entered the Morrison-Wentworth Bank as cashier and served in this capacity until last year.
Capt. Andrew joined the Presbyterian church in 1855, and the Lexington church in 1875, and had served as elder since 1883. He was the father of six children, one of whom, Mrs. Albert G. Young, of this city survives.
The funeral service conducted by Rev. Robt. L. Cowan, was held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
