Tombstone indicates that "Col. Clinton M. Andrews fell in battle near Nottoway Court House, Virginia on June 23, 1864". (Actually was wounded at Black & White, Virginia).

He was the son of John Newton and Sarah H. Andrews, and the husband of Ellen M. Butz Andrews.

Graduated from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.

1862 – 1864: Major of 2nd North Carolina Cavalry Regiment.
1864: Lt. Colonel of 2nd North Carolina Cavalry Regiment.
1864: Colonel of 2nd North Carolina Cavalry Regiment.

1864: Mortally Wounded in Skirmish at Black & White Virginia.

Cause of his death was from the effects of having his leg amputated.
