George Scarlett Maret was born June 4,1812 in Ky., The oldest son of John and Patsy Cook Maret. He lived near Wallace's Mill, Garrard Co, Ky and farmed until moving to Columbus, Texas between1872-1876. He married Eliza Wagner/Waggoner Smith, daughter of General William and Ann Fish Smith at Mt. Vernon, Ky. All eleven of their children were born in Kentucky. A son said he thought his father was named for a friend of his grandfather. G. S. Smith . George Scarlett died near Columbus, Texas reportedly about December 1876. Part of his family went to Texas with him and part remained in Kentucky.

It appears he died in or near Columbus, Colorado Co, TX between 1874 & 1876. His dau. married in Dec 1876 and I believe that was after her dad died. The mother, Eliza, returned to KY after the 1880 census & died in KY in 1882.
