George Ray Black, 80, of Poteau, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004. He was born Aug. 28, 1924 at Poteau. He was a World War II veteran and worked in construction. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kelsey Jr., Jessie and Fred Black; and one sister, Thelma Jackson. Survivors include five sons, Bob Hinson of Mena, Ark., James Black of Panama, Roger Black and Gene Ray Black, both of Bakersfield, Calif., and Joe Skinner of Poteau; five daughters, Dian Langston and Radean Green, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Mary Hinson of Poteau, Sherry Medley of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Linda Manning of Louisiana; one brother, Bill Black of Poteau; two sisters, Dorothy Miller of Lompoc, Calif. and Earlene Phillips of Taft, Calif.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
