Mr. Black was born in Poteau, Oklahoma, on April 17, 1913 and passed away in a local Taft hospital January 10. He had lived in the Cuyama Valley from 1953 until 1985 when he moved to Taft.
He worked as a farmer for over 40 years, most of which were spent farming the Cuyama Valley. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Minnie Black; three brothers, Jesse, Fred and J.R. Black; and three sons, James Edwin, Lynn Stewart and Fred Earl Black. His survivors include his wife, his children, his brothers and sisters, nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
