William was one of thirteen children and the twin brother of Martha Parritt Rosebrook Bunker and the brother of 3 Sea Captains: David C. Rosebrook, Naham Good Rosebrook and Ebenezer Cobb “Eben” Rosebrook. In his paperwork he listed Captain Simeon Tracy as his contact person. Simeon was his nephew, the son of Jerimiah and Lydia Rosebrook (his sister) Tracy. He was born March 22, 1830 in Maine. He died on August 4, 1895 and his SSH Register Page number is 2590. He listed himself as a widower and was a Protestant. William spent 20 years at sea serving aboard merchantmen, (12 years on a coasting merchant, as opposed to deep sea sailing) all under the American flag. He saw no foreign service. It appears that he sailed mostly out of New York. He sailed as the Captain of a brig the Alex Nicholas for 3 months and he last sailed as 1st mate aboard the brig Olam Bill under Captain Tracy in 1885. He injured his spine on board ship in 1885 and was crippled in one leg. He applied for residency in the Sailors Snug harbor December 20th, 1892 and lived out his years in their care.

William was married twice: First to Margaretta (Margaret) Sites on December 18, 1853 in Gouldsboro, Hancock, Maine with whom he had a child, Mary Helen Rosebrook: born 1855 and died November 9, 1862. Margaret died October 22, 1862. They both died from diphtheria. His second marriage was to Henrietta Smith, December 20, 1873 in Gouldsboro, Hancock, Maine and they divorced in September of 1887.
