Chuck was a World War II pilot. He enlisted in the Naval Air Corps immediately after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He flew a Catalina PBY and the Mustang, which was known as the widow maker.

After his heart attack, Chuck moved to the Florida Keys, where he served as a member of the Florida Keys electric co-op.
