Sadie G. Elmore, 96, of Morningside of Camden, 719 Kershaw Highway, Camden, and formerly of 415 Martinville Church Road, Sumter, died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Mrs. Elmore was born on Aug. 9, 1916, in Darlington County. She was the youngest daughter of the late Boyd McKeiver Grantham and the late Sally Elizabeth "Betty" Northcutt. She was the oldest member of Bethany Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible and going to church. Mrs. Elmore attended Kellytown School and High Point School in Lydia. She was employed by J.C. Penney Inc., the Capitol Department Store and White & Kennedy Shoe Store, all in Sumter. She retired after 24 years of service to care for her husband.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lucy B. Elmore of Camden; grandchildren, Kathy Elmore Aldrich (Robert) of Camden, Christopher Zealon Elmore (Wendy) of Elgin, Linda Atkinson Stabler (Herbert) of Gaston, Cynthia Atkinson Fruth (Jim) of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Megan R. Arnett of Charleston, Taylor A. Elmore of Columbia, Mandy Argoe of Charleston, Allison Argoe of Charleston, Angela B. Drinkard of Columbia, Jonathan P. Bell (Jaclyn) of Charleston and Matthew S. Bell (Melissa) of Charleston; great-great-grandchildren, Justin M. Drinkard of Columbia and Jacob Cooper Bell of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Elmore was preceded in death by her husband, James Benson Elmore; her only son, Grady Lester Elmore; brothers, Abram Major Franklin, Wallace McKeiver, Walter Ellenger and Robert Woodrow Grantham; and sisters, Lizzie Lee Walters, Bertie Eliever Beasley, Bertha Hanna Whittle and Annie Eliza Walters.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Morningside of Camden, the doctors and nurses at Kershaw Health in Camden and Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia for the care and consideration provided.

Visitation will be held today between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, 200 W. Church St. in Bishopville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 1146 Manville-St. Charles Road, Bishopville, with Dr. James Chandler, the Rev. Sim Smith and the Rev. Gene Stokes officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the interment.
