THE TOMB

Died--Enreka, St. Louis county, Oct. 3d, 1882, of congestion of the lungs, Robert H. Early, aged 64 years.

Deceased was born in Franklin county, Virginia, Nov. 23d, 1818. Married Miss Harriet Woods about 1840. He subsequently lived near Charleston, Kanawha county, now West Virginia, from whence he came to Missouri and settled in Lafayette county about 1855, where he purchased and cultivated a large farm. In common with many other southern men the close of the war found him greatly embarrassed financially. Finding it impossible to retrieve his fortunes here he removed Eureka, St. Louis county, Mo., about 1877, where he was living at his death. He was a sincere, positive and outspoken man, strong and faithful in his friendships, and open and bold in his opposition and dislikes. A man of untiring energy, generous to a fault and abounding in works of unostentatious charity to the needy and unprotected in his neighborhood. Early in the spring of 1882 he made a profession of religion, being most happily converted, and since that time he has lived a consistent and devoted christian life. He met death resignedly and cheerfully with a sure hope of eternal life hereafter with the Savior in the pace He had gone before to prepare. Deceased was a brother of Gen. Jubal A. Early. He left a large family of children to mourn the loss of a kind father. The news of his death was received with great sorrow by his old neighbors and friends, a large concourse of whom followed his remains sorrowing to the resting place in Machpelah cemetery.
