William Alexander "Bill" Thomas was the son of W.A. Thomas and Sally Mitchell. He married Mary Jane "Molly" McCain, daughter of John James McCain and Martha A. Brunt. They had seven children:

The first six children were born in Mississippi. By 1894 the family was living in Cherokee County where their youngest child Drew was born. Molly died in 1895 when Drew was about 11 months old.
When Drew was about one year old, Bill Thomas moved his family back to Mississippi where he married Rosa Goss on August 4, 1903. In 1920, he and Rosa were once again in Texas, residing in Houston County. He died in 1929 in Alto, at the age of 78.
