Miss Anne D. Schaeffer, 73, of 608 W. James St., retired McCaskey High School history teacher, was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital Saturday at 2:26 p.m. She collapsed while raking leaves at her residence. For 41 years, Miss Schaeffer taught world and U.S. history, first at the former Girls High School, then at McCaskey. A native of Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Nathan C. Schaeffer, nationally known educator; and was the sister of the late Dr. John A. Schaeffer, former president of Franklin and Marshall College. Miss Schaeffer received her bachelor's degree from Wilson College and her master's degree from Susquehanna University. She did graduate work for one year at Radcliffe College and attended Summer schools at Cornell and Penn State University. She was a member of S. Peter's United Church of Christ; the Iris Club; the Donegal Chapter, Daughters of he American Revolution; the Cliosophic Society; the Wilson College Club of Lancaster; the Lancaster General Hospital Auxiliary; the National Education Assn.; the Pennsylvania State Education Assn., and the National Retired Teachers Assn. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary S. Augustine, Altoona, and several nieces and nephews. (Lancaster New Era - Nov 16, 1970)
