JOHN LASTER
The death of John Laster, following an illness of only a few days, came as a shock to his many friends in the community on last Friday morning.
The funeral occurred Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Baptist church, at McLouth, conducted by Rev. Wallace Carpenter, assisted by Rev. Hal Clark, pastor of the church and music was by the church choir, with Mrs. Carpenter as pianist.
John L. Laster son of Abner and Matilda Laster, was born near Oskaloosa, Kansas, May 24, 1862, and died at his home at McLouth, Kansas, Jan. 19, 1923, age 69 years, 6 months and 25 days, after a very brief illness.
Mr. Laster spent his early life in the vicinity of Oskaloosa, where on July 24, 1885, he was united in marriage to Lily Mae Sanderson and to their union were born ten children, nine of whom, with their mother, survive their father. James Laster, Louie Laster of Leavenworth; Daisy Zirkle, Kansas City, Kans., Goldie Allen of Easton; Clara Belle Thorpe, Kansas City, Kans; Collie Laster, Kansas City, Kans.; Ruby Haas and Rollie and Chas. Orville Laster of McLouth. Mrs. Dollie Laster Grant preceded her father in death, Feb. 28, 1923. [This date is in error--should be Feb. 28, 1917.]
Mr. Laster came to McLouth several years ago, and established himself in business, where he has been a hard working citizen, and had the good will of the community. He has provided for his home until but a few days before his death, when he felt the end was near, even when there was little outward sign of his danger.
John Laster was a man who was humble in his own sight, and expressed self condemnation but a few days before his death. He was a a familiar figure in the town and will be missed by his many friends.
His death was a shock to family and friends. Besides his wife and children he leaves 20 living grandchildren and one brother, James Laster, of Leavenworth, and Mrs. Martha Lane, of St. Joseph, Mo.
