Funeral Today for Jacob Rau
Ephrata, April 22.- Jacob Rau, 78, resident of Grant county for 38 years, died Friday night at his home in Quincy after a long illness.
Mr. Rau came to Grant county in 1902 and homesteaded 14 miles south of Quincy near Burke. Always interested in the betterment of his community, he helped build the Burke school building and the served as a member of the school board for many years. About 1915 he moved to Quincy, but continued to farm a place 1 mile east of town. He retired 12 years ago.
Mr. Rau was a great believer in irrigation. He had great faith in the future of this part of the country, and did everything possible to promote irrigation of this section of the country. He also was interested in civic affairs and served on the town council of Quincy.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Quincy auditorium. Jenkins and Sons were in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his widow, six sons, Jacob, John, Gottlieb and Edward of Quincy, Dave of Chelan and Frederick of Entiat; four daughters, Mrs. John Daum of Walla Walla, Mrs. John Sparks of Wenatchee, Mrs. Ralph Bonar of Entiat, and Mrs. Robert McGinnis of Seattle. One son died in infancy.
