On Tuesday morning, December 2, 1890, at her home three miles west of this city, Mrs. Ella Bemis, aged 30 years. Deceased was born in Erie Co., Pennsylvania in the year 1860, and married C.G. Bemis in 1881. She has suffered with the fatal disease consumption for several years. Four years ago, she with her family came to this place for her health, and for a time received great benefit from the climate, but at last she laid aside the suffering of this life for a better one. 18 years ago she was converted and joined the M.E. church and remained faithful until the last. She expressed often a willingness to go, but felt anxious to remain to care for her three children aged respectively about two, five and eight years. Mrs. M. Henderson, mother of deceased, arrived only a few days ago from Pennsylvania, expecting to spend the winter with her daughter and family in their new western home. The funeral services held, at the M.E. church December 4th at 11 a.m. Rev. Zaterbrook (?) delivered the funeral sermon, and spoke from the text "To die is gain." Phil. 1, 21. The remains were interred in Circle Mound cemetery, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends.

Calm on the bosom of thy God,
Young spirit! rest thee now.
Even while with us thy footstep trod,
His seal was on thy brow.

Must, to its narrow home beneath!
Soul, to its place on high! -
they that have seen thy look in death
No more may fear to die.

Gone are the paths, and sad the bowers,
Whence thy weak smile is gone;
Put O, a brighter here than ours
In heaven is now thine own!
