Andrew Allen was born August 25, 1858 at Cedar City, Utah. His parents were Andrew Augustus Sr. and Sarah Cartwright Allen. At the age of 2 he moved to Hyrum with his parents. On April 4, 1880 he married Lovisa Hammond in the Logan Temple. Mr. Allen has been a very faithful Church worker, holding many ward positions. He served as a missionary in the Northern States mission from 1899 to 1901. On Aug. 26, 1901 he was sustained as Bishop of the Hyrum Second Ward, which position he filled for 22 years. He served from 1923 to 1931 as president of the High Priests quorum of Hyrum Stake.
He was also active in civic affairs, having been a school trustee for many years; he served as a city councilman and as Mayor of Hyrum City for three terms. It was during his last term as Mayor that Hyrum succeeded in installing its present water system.
For the past four years he has been general manager of the Allen Mercantile company, by which company he has been employed for the past 35 years.
Surviving him is his wife Lovisa and the following children. Mrs. A. J. Petersen, Milton A. Allen and Mrs. Lamar Andersen of Hyrum, and Mrs. Clifford Warr of Preston, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Allen of Provo and one sister, Mrs. Ezra Petersen.
