MRS. JAMES J. FAGAN
Mrs. James J. Fagan passed away Sunday morning at 7:10 after a lingering illness at the family residence at 203 Old Main, Newton, Harvey Co., Kansas. Her funeral will be at St. Mary's church Wednesday morning at 10:00 o'clock and interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Newton, Harvey Co.m Kansas.
Miss Catherine Kerins was born in County Claire, Ireland, April 28, 1871. At the age of sixteen she came to New York City to be with a sister who resided there. Two other sisters and a brother came from Ireland to reside in the states and the family went to Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri to make their home. It was during her residence at Mexico, Missouri, she met James J. Fagan that being his former home. Their marriage occurred at Denver, Colorado Sept 8, 1893 to which place the bride had come from Los Angeles and they came from there to Newton, Kansas to reside. For the past twenty-six years the home has been at 203 Old Main, Newton, Kansas.
The children who with the husband survive are JOSEPH, FRED, FRANK, GEORGE and GERTRUDE of Newton, also two sister, MRS. SUSIE HENDERSON of Fresno, Calif., who with her daughter will be here for the funeral. MRS. MICHAEL JORDON of Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri and a brother, PATRICK KERINS also of Mexico, Audrain Co., Missouri who will be here for the funeral.
Mrs. Fagan had not been in robust health for the past nine years, but while her vitality lessoned her sweet spirit of cheerfulness always prevailed, enduring the last. She was thus able to demonstrate cheer and bring great happiness into the home circle, bearing with patience and submission the sufferings she had to endure. Perhaps one of her greatest trials which she bore in a truly patriotic way was the times when she had to say the parting words to her three boys as they went into army service. The last of the three to return was JOSEPH, who arrived home in November after having been in a hospital many months for treatment for wounds received in an over seas battle. The mother had kept up her courage and strength for the home-coming being able to assist at the Thanksgiving dinner. Becoming too weak to be up she had to remain in her bed and for the past seven months had been bedfast.
Mrs Fagan was very devoted to her family and until ill health caused her to be less active, she had always found time to do the neighborly acts that had endeared her to many friends. She was a devout member of St. Mary's Catholic church, and the members of that church whose lives had come in contact with hers will never forget the inspiration for good she was able to give.
