Robert O. Zimmer died Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at Trinity Mission Nursing Home. Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 29, 1923. He was the son of the late Lola and Oscar Zimmer of Florida.
Bob and his wife, Patricia Malley Zimmer, have five children, Judith and her husband, Tom, Michael, Jeff and his wife, Martine, Shaun, and Kyle and her husband, Michael. He has nine grandchildren, Maire Claire, Andrew, Meghan, Cedric, Erin, Alex, Lindsay, Conor and Ian. Bob is also survived by his sisters, Ruth, Margaret and Pat.
He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and friend to many and will be greatly missed. He will be remembered for his strength and wonderful sense of humor.
Bob served in World War II in the United States Army 75th infantry division. He earned a degree from Ohio State University and worked many years for the Anchor Hocking Glass Company. He was a plant manager for the Zanesville Mould Company in Zanesville, Ohio, before settling in Charlottesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any desired donations be sent to the Senior Center Inc., 1180 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville, VA 22901. Bob enjoyed volunteering there for several years and has many friends at the Center.
