Mrs. Alice Ruth Mathis, 69 years old, of 555 South Center Street, widow of James Mathis, died 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Spartanburg General Hospital after a long illness.
Native of Jasper County, Georgia; retired textile employee, member of Southside Baptist Church, daughter of the late Vinson Riley and Richie Lou Miller.
Surviving: daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Murray of Wellford, South Carolina, Mrs. Margaret Warren of Spartenburg, South Carolina, and Mrs. Juanita Smith of Houston, Texas; son George Cannady of Houston, Texas; sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bolin of Augusta, Georgia, and Mrs. Bessie Key of Aiken, South Carolina, Mrs. Julia Forman of Jackson, South Carolina, Mrs. Jane Taylor of Savannah, Georgia, and Mrs. Blanche Bettis of Panasea, Florida; brother, Barrett Miller of Augusta, Georgia; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services 4:00 p.m. Friday at Floydโs North Church Street Chapel by the Rev. J. S. Presenell; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
