Nellie G. MURPHY, 99, dies
Nellie Grace MURPHY, 99, resident of Parkview Care Center, died at 9 p.m. Friday, March 10, 1989, at the center.
The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Clair D. Odell officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the long term care unit of the Jefferson County Hospital Activity Fund.
Mrs. MURPHY was born Jan. 23, 1890, in Grundy County, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Anna ALLENDER COCHRAN. She moved with her parents to Jefferson County when she was a child. She was reared and educated in Buchanan Township and graduated from Fairfield High School and Elliott's Business College in Burlington. She was a stenographer in J. P. Starr's law office.
She married Benjamin F. MURPHY Feb. 28, 1912, in Fairfield. They farmed in Canada before returning to Fairfield in 1915. They farmed southeast of Fairfield and moved into town in September 1967.
She was a member of the First United Methodsit Church and United Methodist Church and WSCS.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 24, 1969, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
