PIERSON, Iowa - Wilma L. Chinn, 86, of Pierson died Friday, February 18, 2000, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley, Iowa.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pierson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jay Amundson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley.
Mrs. Chinn was born Aug. 29, 1913, in rural Pierson, the daughter of Curtis and Orpha (Baker) Culler. She grew up in the Pierson area and graduated from Pierson High School. After graduation she worked as a child care provider for many area families prior to her marriage.
She married Bernard "Bernie" Chinn on Nov. 20, 1935. The couple farmed together for over 25 years. They also spent many years working together at the Kingsley-Pierson School, her husband working as a school custodian and she as a cook for the lunch program. After their retirement they spent their winters in Arizona. Her husband died July 4, 1982. She moved into Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in October of 1994.
She was a member of Pierson United Methodist Church and was active in many church groups. She enjoyed her flower garden.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorie Jean her husband Melvin Cales of Phoenix, and Linda Dugan of Boulder, Colo.; two sons and their wives, Roger and Gail of Grassy Butte, N.D., and Lowell and Deb of Kingsley; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie Harm and Evelyn Pease both of Pierson, and Mildred King of Storm Lake, Iowa; and a brother Maurice Culler of Mapleton, Iowa.
